North Carolina man faces drug charges after investigation

On Behalf of | Feb 20, 2013 | Drug Charges |

A local man has been arrested by New Hanover County authorities after being accused of dealing drugs. The 31-year-old man is now facing charges of heroin trafficking, additional drug charges and possessing a firearm. He was incarcerated in lieu of bail, what was set at a bond of $100,000.

The reasons why the man may have come under scrutiny is unknown, but he became the target of an undercover investigation. Agents reportedly purchased drugs from him. A search warrant was eventually obtained, and detectives reportedly found multiple packages of heroin when executing the warrant.

Authorities say each of those bags was stamped with a red star, but it was not reported what potential relevance that has to the case. Authorities estimated that the drugs could have been sold on the streets for over $2,000. A weapon and scales possibly used in the drug operation were also said to have been seized during the search.

Drug charges can result in stiff penalties or even jail time if a conviction is actually obtained. Any New Hanover County resident accused of drug trafficking may be in for a challenging legal battle, and it is likely in this man’s best interests to understand his rights as they pertain to the pending drug charges. Doing so could certainly help as he prepares for what he is likely to face in court. A strong legal team will likely be able to advise him of his options and advise him concerning the best approach to defending against these criminal charges.
