It can be hard enough dealing with other vehicles on the road swerving around you or stopping suddenly, but a driver who continually stares at other places inside or outside their car can put others in danger.
Truck drivers in particular need to stay vigilant since their vehicles are so large. If you are in an accident with a truck driver, it could be because various sights or people around them distracted them.
Phones
According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, although there are many reasons why using a phone is unsafe in a vehicle, some truckers will still glance at their devices anyway while driving. Some may even look away for multiple seconds in order to type and talk to someone else.
The more a trucker focuses on something other than the road, the longer they will take to come to a complete stop. Since these vehicles are more powerful and heavier than a typical car or motorcycle, they will endanger the life of the other driver and even pedestrians around them.
Road maps
Since truckers drive so many different places, they may need to look up where they need to go next while driving. However, looking down at a paper map or using an electronic device to search for them can put everyone on the road at risk.
Even if these truckers assume it will not lead to them losing control of the wheel or swerving into traffic, these distractions can still make it hard to focus on the road and cars around them. Distracted truck drivers can leave you with serious injuries.
