A North Carolina man is in legal hot water after being accused of attacking his neighbor with a machete on July 7. The man has since been arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious bodily injury. He was being held in the Bladen County Jail under a secured bond of $35,000.
A neighbor sustained injuries serious enough to warrant a hospital trip. Authorities allege the accused man was driving through neighbor’s yards and shining his flashlight inside of their windows around midnight. When he was confronted by several of the neighbors, he allegedly took a machete out of his vehicle and walked toward them, in what was said to be to be a threatening manner.
The man purportedly swung the weapon at one of the neighbors when he was approached, cutting him on the left hand. That neighbor was taken to Bladen County Hospital and received stitches for the injury received. Authorities allege the man was intoxicated when the incident occurred.
A conviction on this particular weapon charge could potentially land the man in a North Carolina jail for a lengthy period of time. It is important that the man understand his legal rights so he is better able to mount a strong defense when required to answer to these charges. Although the accusations against this man are serious, he is entitled to a presumption of innocence, a legal right that attaches to any person accused of a North Carolina crime. With many reported crimes, there is often more to the story than what is initially contained in press reports.
