Man faces weapons charge after stop by Wilmington police

Wilmington police arrested a man on May 22 and charged him with a weapons crime. The 38-year-old man was taken to the New Hanover County jail where his bail was set at $50,000. The violent crime arrest occurred after police allegedly watched the man trying to sell a weapon in the 2400 block of Colonial Drive.

He is facing several charges, including resisting arrest, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, assault with a deadly weapon and also carrying a concealed weapon. Police say that after the man left the scene, they stopped him on Wayne Drive. At that time he purportedly brandished the firearm and then resisted arrest, though further details of the incident were withheld.

As this case shows, criminal charges can come about when you're not expecting them. Police diligently patrol the streets of Wilmington, and if they see something they feel is suspicious, they will not hesitate to investigate further.

The man in this case is facing serious charges and, because of his past history, may face a harsher punishment if he is convicted. But as with every other individual accused of a crime in North Carolina, this man is innocent until proven guilty and will have the chance to challenge evidence and confront witnesses against him when the case goes to court. With this violent crime charge, he may feel that he will have a tough time fighting the charges against him because he is a convicted felon. However, there are two sides to every story.
