Accident claims 3 lives and injures a fourth in Wilmington

| Mar 2, 2012 | Fatal Motor Vehicle Accidents |

Most the time, when people think about a car accident that results in the injury of others, they automatically assume two vehicles were involved. Unfortunately, personal injury and wrongful death can occur in single-vehicle accidents as well. Recently, a single-vehicle crash that took place in Wilmington, North Carolina, claimed the lives of three people and resulted in the hospitalization of a fourth.

According to Wilmington authorities, the vehicle — an SUV — was speeding while navigating a curve in the road. Police say the driver lost control and crashed into a tree. The identities of the victims involved in the car accident have not yet been released. However, investigators have confirmed that two of the deceased passengers were female. The male driver was also killed. Thankfully, the fourth passenger in the vehicle is expected to survive.

Purportedly, the driver of the SUV was not using his headlights and increased his rate of speed after passing a police car. While many of the details surrounding this case remain unclear, nothing is more obvious than the tragedy that was suffered in this devastating accident.

Unfortunately, this case demonstrates that one less-than-cautious action can have serious consequences. While it’s certain that the driver in this story did not mean to crash the vehicle, three families are now left to cope with the loss of a loved one. We can only hope now that others in our community and throughout the rest of the state will learn from this tragedy and perhaps take extra precautions to drive safely.
