60-year-old man killed in Wilmington accident

In a tragic accident earlier this month, a 60-year-old Wilmington, North Carolina, man died in a car accident in the vicinity of Greenfield Lake Park. His 21-year-old female passenger was hospitalized with serious injuries. The accident happened when the man's antique car merged from Carolina Beach Road onto Third Street.

The two were riding in the man's 1955 Morgan convertible when it collided head-on with a 2008 Kia Spectra. Unfortunately, neither of the people in the convertible was wearing a seat belt, since the old car did not have any. The two people riding in the Kia, on the other hand, survived the incident. They were taken to the hospital, where they were treated for undisclosed injuries and later released.

At this time, Wilmington police know that the antique car had crossed the centerline into oncoming traffic. However, no determination has been made to explain why the Morgan driver crossed into oncoming traffic in the first place. And while it is tragic that he died, the man's estate could ultimately be held liable for any injuries that occurred in the accident.

This much is clear: the 21-year-old female passenger was seriously injured and the Kia occupants were also injured. While the 21-year-old's family and loved ones pray for her recovery, they will also want to know exactly what happened and why she died. North Carolina law provides for the right of those seriously injured in a car accident due to the negligence of others to recover monetary damages for their injuries and any pain and suffering. Consulting with an experienced personal injury attorney would be a good first step in deciding what move to make.
