Losing someone you care about in a car accident is an unparalleled tragedy. This is especially true for people who lose a loved one because of what appears to have been a poor decision made by another driver. The family of a 72-year-old woman in North Carolina is facing just these circumstances as a result of a fatal car accident that took place last Friday.

According to police reports, the victim was traveling eastbound on U.S. Highway 64 when another driver, a 67-year-old female from Hayesville, North Carolina who was traveling the same direction, crossed the center line and struck her vehicle. The force of the impact then pushed the first car into a second vehicle driven by an 18-year-old female. The deceased victim’s vehicle was severely mangled in the crash.

Emergency responders were immediately dispatched to the scene where they were required to forcibly extricate the body of the victim from her vehicle. She was pronounced dead as a result of her injuries. The second victim, as well as the woman who appears to have been at fault in the accident, were transported to Mercy Medical Center. Both women are recovering.

There are currently no criminal charges filed in connection the car accident. However, in light of the fatal nature of the incident, it is possible the woman who seems to have been at fault will face some sort of legal ramifications. The family of the deceased victim, as well as the second victim injured in the accident, could choose to seek personal injury damages for physical and emotional distress.
