1 injured, 1 killed in North Carolina car accident

One passenger is dead and another is critically injured following a single-car crash on Sept. 21, according to local law enforcement. North Carolina police are still investigating how the car accident, which claimed the life of one local man and injured his friend, a football player for a local team. No charges have yet been filed in connection with this case, but the driver of the vehicle has been placed on notice by police.

According to the accident report, the vehicle driven by a 19-year-old man was attempting to make a left-hand turn when the driver lost control. The vehicle left the road and struck a utility pole with enough force to cause the pole to collapse on the vehicle. Live wires landed on the vehicle, trapping the occupants inside.

One passenger, a 21-year-old man, was ejected from the vehicle when it crashed. He was reported dead at the scene of the accident by arriving medical personnel. Rescuers took several hours extracting the other two passengers from the vehicle as power lines had to be shut down to make approaching the wreck safe for those involved. The driver was uninjured, and the football player was taken to hospital, where he is reported to be in stable condition.

This tragic car accident is still not fully understood, and North Carolina police are working hard to determine its cause. If the driver of the vehicle is found to have been operating the vehicle in contradiction to state traffic laws, he could be criminally charged. The next-of-kin of the deceased victim and the injured party would also be entitled to file suit against him in a civil court setting.
