A local man is dead following a fatal accident on August 3. North Carolina police have very little information about the motorcycle accident so far, but the investigation is ongoing. No charges have been filed in association with this tragic case as of this writing.
According to police reports, the accident took place on Interstate 40 sometime in the afternoon. The crash was severe enough to delay traffic on the interstate for several hours. Details are sketchy, but it appears the victim, a resident of nearby Zebulon, died as a result of crashing his motorcycle into the back of another vehicle.
It is unknown if the man survived long enough to be taken to hospital or if he died on the scene – it is also unknown if he was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. There is no word on the condition of the driver and any passengers of the vehicle he struck. Police are still conducting an investigation and are hoping to have more answers as the investigation proceeds.
There is far too little information associated with this motorcycle accident to make an accurate determination of who was at fault for the crash at this juncture. However, if it is discovered that the driver of the car somehow caused the crash, the next-of-kin of the deceased motorcycle driver will be entitled to seek a wrongful death suit against the other driver in a North Carolina civil court. Contrarily, if the motorcyclist is found to be at fault and caused any injuries to occupants of the vehicle, injured parties will be entitled to file a personal injury suit against his estate.
