1 woman dead after car accident in North Carolina

On Behalf of | Jul 19, 2013 | Car Accidents |

A local business owner is dead and another driver is injured following a crash that knocked out electricity and shut down roads for hours. North Carolina police are still investigating the car accident. No criminal charges have been filed in connection with this case.

According to preliminary reports, the woman was driving her tractor-trailer on U.S. 74 when a collision occurred between the truck and a car at an intersection. It is unclear which driver was responsible for the crash. The truck then continued on and struck a utility pole, overturning in the process.

The female truck driver was pronounced dead at the scene by arriving medical personnel, and the driver of the car was taken to hospital with undisclosed injuries. The crash took down the utility pole, leaving parts of the North Carolina town where the accident took place without power. A fuel spill as well as some of the truck’s contents had to be cleared from the road before traffic could resume normally.

The details of this case are still too sketchy to form any specific conclusions regarding culpability, but it is clear that one of the two drivers was likely at fault for the accident barring inclement weather conditions. If the driver of the truck is found to be responsible for the car accident, the driver of the car would be entitled to file a personal injury suit against her estate. If, however, the driver of the car is deemed at fault, the truck driver’s next-of-kin will be within their rights to file a wrongful death suit against the other driver. In either case, these suits would be handled through a North Carolina civil court.
