North Carolina woman faces child abuse and drug charges

| Nov 14, 2012 | Drug Charges |

A North Carolina woman is facing drug charges after being accused of purchasing heroin while she had her toddler in the vehicle with her. The 24-year-old woman was accused of the crime after she was observed by police officers with what police described as a known drug dealer. The woman is now facing drug charges including felony possession of heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia.

She also is facing additional charges of misdemeanor child abuse and reckless driving to endanger. After she was seen with the alleged dealer, authorities tailed her until they stopped her for an unspecified traffic violation. Officers stated they found two aggressive dogs inside of the vehicle and also her young son. She was questioned by the officers and was said to have admitted she had purchased the drugs.

The dogs in the car were taken by animal control and the child was placed with the Department of Social Services. The woman’s bail has been set at $5,000, but it is unknown if she has been released. The drug charges this woman is facing are already serious, but her trouble goes much deeper because she had her child in the car at the time of the alleged crime.

North Carolina drug charges can net someone hefty fines and a lengthy jail sentence if a conviction is ultimately obtained. However, the woman in this incident faces an additional uphill legal battle and probably another battle to get her child back. As such, it would likely be in her best interests to understand the potentially sobering consequences of these charges and how they could affect her and her child.
