A North Carolina mother has plans to hold a rally for her daughter who died in a fatal accident. The 19-month-old girl was killed several months ago in a drunk driving collision in Vance County, North Carolina. The man responsible for the fatal accident is facing several felony charges including felony death by vehicle, driving while impaired and reckless driving to endanger.
The mother hopes that holding the rally will bring additional community awareness to the dangers of drunk driving. She initially hoped to hold the rally outside of the local courthouse on the original date that the man was to appear, but the driver’s trial was rescheduled. Now she hopes to obtain a permit for the demonstration during his new court date.
She is fighting for the state to toughen its laws against drunk driving offenders. The woman has dedicated a Facebook page to the memory of her daughter and she is appealing to loved ones and the public to join her during the rally. Her daughter was inside of a Mercedes with her father this summer when a Dodge Charger crossed over the center line and struck them. The impact forced both vehicles off of the road and the Mercedes overturned. The little girl was trapped inside of her car seat and later died at the hospital.
Drunk driving in North Carolina can cause serious and fatal accidents, forever altering lives. An innocent child lost her life in this crash because of a single poor decision. Although the man is facing criminal charges in this crash, he could also be liable for civil damages if the girl’s family decides to pursue a lawsuit against him. There has been no word on whether that has occurred, but it could be a possibility for them in the future.
