North Carolina car accident kills 2, injures 2 others

On Behalf of | Aug 17, 2012 | Fatal Motor Vehicle Accidents |

A North Carolina soldier is facing criminal charges after a racing accident led to the death of a fellow soldier and another man. The 21-year-old has been charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter and a single count of prearranged racing. Authorities believe that the car accident occurred while the two men were engaged in illegal car racing.

Another 21-year-old man and one passenger were racing against the accused on Morganton Road when one of the victim’s lost control of his vehicle and slammed into a Hyundai. At the time of the crash, it is believed the man was traveling over 90 mph. Both the 21-year-old soldier and his passenger died.

The driver of the Hyundai sustained serious injuries and his female passenger also suffered several serious injuries including broken ribs, a lacerated liver and a broken leg. Doctors expect her to have a long recovery period. Although the accused was not driving the vehicle that crashed into the Hyundai, authorities assert that his actions contributed to the deadly car accident. As such, he is facing criminal charges for his role in this crash. He has posted bond, but will likely stand trial on these charges.

Several families have been detrimentally affected by this deadly car accident. Two people lost their lives and two others suffered injuries serious enough to require hospitalization. While he may not have been behind the wheel, North Carolina law states that he can still face charges for his role in what happened on Morganton Road. In addition to the criminal case against him, the families involved have the right to press forward with a civil claim against the soldier for his role in this North Carolina car accident. While it may not ease their grief, it could serve as an additional measure of justice for the serious injury and loss of life that resulted from a decision to engage in illegal street racing.
