Countless people lose their lives on North Carolina roads every year. Losing a loved one in a car accident is devastating, but the sense of injustice and pain felt by families is worsened when the driver seems to have little or no remorse. The mother of a North Carolina man killed in a car accident in May has once again appealed for information to catch her son’s killer, in the hope that he or she will be found and brought to justice.
Her son and two other men were cycling home through Charlotte’s Sedgefield neighborhood on the night the accident took place. As they made a left turn from Lawndale Road onto Poindexter Drive, the man fell off his bike. As his friends stopped to help him up, a car came hurtling toward them, showing no sign of slowing down. One of the other men held a bike over his head and frantically tried to get the attention of the driver. The driver did not stop, and the woman’s son was run over and killed. The driver sped away from the scene and has yet to be found by North Carolina police.
Losing a family member is heartbreaking, and for the mother of the young man, the loss may be worsened by not knowing who is responsible. Along with the emotional trauma, families may also face financial challenges after the death of a loved one. But even if the driver is never found, families can pursue a claim on their own insurance policy. Uninsured motorist coverage can protect those involved in accidents with uninsured or hit-and-run drivers. An experienced personal injury attorney can help to advise a victim’s family of possible options.
