Man charged with drug crimes following car chase

On Jan. 3, a North Carolina man was charged with multiple drug offenses after leading the authorities on a chase. The chase reportedly ended when the accused man crashed into a house.

Enfield police stated that they were attempting to stop a vehicle that was speeding along South Dennis Street. The 31-year-old driver allegedly pulled into a residential driveway before fleeing from the car. The vehicle, which was not put into park, continued rolling and collided with the residence. The accused man was then taken into custody without any further incidents.

Following the incident, authorities reportedly recovered approximately 3.2 grams of crack cocaine, 48.6 grams of marijuana and one dosage unit of ecstasy. The man was ultimately charged with numerous offenses, including felony possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, felony possession of cocaine, felony possession of a scheduled 1 control substance and possession of drug paraphernalia in addition to traffic violations. He was scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 3 and was issued a $5,000 bond.

Drug charges often result in serious consequences. Depending on the severity of the charges, a person can potentially face years in jail, be responsible for major fines and even lose their job. A criminal law attorney may provide a strong defense against the charges. In some cases, the attorney may argue that the drugs that were found did not belong to the accused person. It may also be argued that the person was unaware they were in possession of drugs or they were compelled to be involved. If the evidence against the accused person is strong, the attorney may look to see if there are grounds to dismiss the case due to technicalities.
