Man faces numerous heroin and other drug-related charges

Residents of New Hanover may be interested in a case that is unfolding in a county located well inland of their part of the southern North Carolina coastline. According to news reports, a Kernersville man was being held under a $700,000 secured bond on numerous heroin and other drug-related charges. He was in custody at the Forsyth County Detention Center.

The arrest was made on Oct. 31. Reports indicate that the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations, Thomasville Police Department, and Kernersville Police Department Narcotics Unit cooperated in the effort. In addition to placing the charged man in custody, authorities were able to seize one ounce of marijuana and 16 ounces of heroin as a result of the joint operation.

The alleged drug dealer is reportedly now facing seven counts in Forsyth County. Charges include one count of possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, one count of possession with intent to sell and deliver heroin, two counts of trafficking heroin, one count of maintaining a dwelling for the purpose of violating the controlled substance act, one count of maintaining a vehicle for the purpose of violation of the controlled substance act, and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

>New Hanover residents who find themselves to be a person of interest in a criminal drug investigation may find it beneficial to seek the representation of an attorney who is cognizant of the nuances of the criminal court system. After evaluating the drug charges in light of the prosecution's evidence, the attorney may be able to determine the most advantageous course of action for the client. One potential attack in a possession case could be to challenge the search that led to the seizure of the drugs as being made without probable cause.
