Man accused of drunk driving after hitting North Carolina home

A man has been accused of drunk driving after crashing into a North Carolina home. The impact of the crash started a fire that ultimately ended with the house exploding. The driver in this case was not seriously injured, but has since been charged with drunk driving.

A witness to the scene was sitting on her front porch and saw the incident. The man apparently drove in between two houses and directly into the kitchen of the home. Unfortunately, the gas line was struck and just a few moments later, the house went up in flames.

Neighbors were forced to evacuate the area until assistance arrived. The gas company was soon at the scene helping to secure the leak. The fire was eventually contained, but smoke from the accident was visible from miles away. Fortunately, no one in the home was hurt due to the accident or fire.

The 52-year-old North Carolina man has been charged with DWI, but there was no word on whether toxicology samples were taken or if he was administered field sobriety tests. This could help his case because many accidents can be mistaken for drunk driving incidents even though some other factor may have contributed to such a crash. For now, this man is innocent until proven guilty and will have the opportunity to fight the charges against him in court. Not every defendant who is accused of a crime has actually committed any criminal wrongdoing, which is why prosecutors must prove someone's guilt by showing competent evidence at trial.
