A dump truck driver is facing criminal charges in connection with a fatal accident in North Carolina. The driver turned left from a stopped position, directly into the path of an oncoming vehicle. Commercial trucks and tractor-trailer rigs can do a lot of damage in an accident, particularly if the other party is a bicyclist. A bike stands little chance against such a large vehicle, and for that reason any truck accident that results from such a collision is normally devastating. Any time an individual gets behind the wheel of a motor vehicle in North Carolina, a duty of reasonable care is owed to others in the roadway, including bicycles.
Although it is not always clear as to what led to an accident, most drivers know that when an accident involves a tractor-trailer, it can often result in serious injury or death. The sheer size of such a vehicle can have catastrophic effects on any vehicle that comes in contact with it. With large interstate highways intertwined throughout North Carolina, the potential for these types of accidents is always high as truck drivers make their way across the country via interstate highways.
It comes as no surprise that semi trucks are larger than most other vehicles on the road. And when an accident occurs that involves a semi truck or tractor trailer, the damage can be catastrophic due to the vehicle's sheer size and speed.
When a tractor-trailer is involved in a collision with another vehicle, the consequences can be catastrophic. Because of their power and size, tractor trailer drivers should be vigilant and cautious in the presence of other drivers. Unfortunately, when drivers of large vehicles take to the road while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, their negligence could put the lives of other road users seriously at risk. Three people were killed in a truck accident in North Carolina recently after an intoxicated truck driver collided with multiple vehicles.
Truck accidents are a relatively common occurrence and they're almost always frightening, but the seriousness of any motor vehicle accident is magnified when it costs someone his or her life.
