Reserve officer accused of drunk driving

Recently, in relation to allegations of drunk driving, a reserve officer here in North Carolina was arrested and charged, had his license revoked and was fired.

The man is 23 years old and he served as a reserve officer with the Polk County Sheriff's Office. On Feb. 16, the man was pulled over by police as he was driving in Spindale. According to police, this traffic stop was made in relation to alleged speeding by the man.

Police say that, during this traffic stop, the man:

  • Told police he had had 8 to 10 beers before getting behind the wheel.
  • Failed sobriety tests.
  • Gave a breath sample that yielded a positive result on an alcohol detecting device.

After these things occurred, the man was arrested. According to authorities, a breathalyzer test was conducted in regards to the man following the arrest and the test indicated that he had a blood alcohol level of 0.14.

Since the arrest, the Polk County Sheriff's Office has fired the man.

A charge of driving while impaired has been brought against the man in relation to the incident. The man has also had his driver's license temporarily revoked.

License revocations are one of the many things that being accused of drunk driving can lead to a person facing. Here in North Carolina, being charged with drunk driving can lead to a person automatically being issued a temporary license revocation. The length of the temporary revocation is generally 30 days.

Depending on the circumstances, a person who has had their license temporarily revoked in relation to being charged with drunk driving may be able to challenge the revocation or receive a grant of limited driving privileges during a portion of the revocation period.
