1 man dead after car accident in North Carolina

A local man is dead after a head-on collision on U.S. 158 on June 23. The car accident was attended to by North Carolina police, who declared the driver dead and arranged for medical assistance for his passenger and the driver of the other vehicle. The crash is still under investigation at this time.

Police say the 19-year-old man was driving north before crossing the center line of U.S. 158 and becoming involved in a head-on crash with another vehicle traveling the opposite direction. The driver of the first car was declared dead at the scene of the accident. His passenger, a 19-year-old woman, was airlifted to a local hospital with severe but non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the other vehicle was taken by ambulance to a local hospital. Her injuries were also described as non-life-threatening. There has been no word from police at this time as to why the other driver crossed the center line. The investigation is ongoing, but police have not speculated about any factors that may have influenced the crash including speed or intoxication.

While neither injured party is in immediate danger of death according to reports, the extent of their injuries is unknown and it is possible that either or both may suffer further complications as a result of the injuries incurred during this car accident. Under North Carolina law, both the passenger and the driver of the other vehicle may be able to seek personal injury suits against the estate of the deceased driver. Such suits would be handled through civil court and those responsible for the estate would be named as defendants.
