Motorcycle accident in North Carolina leaves one injured

On Behalf of | May 6, 2013 | Motorcycle Accidents |

A devastating crash on Highway 87 between a motorcycle and a tractor trailer has left one woman with serious injuries. The motorcycle accident occurred in the early hours of the morning of April 18 just inside the limits of a North Carolina city. Police responded to the crash immediately, and their investigation into the nature of the accident is ongoing.

Preliminary reports indicate the motorcycle, operated by a 53-year-old local woman, struck a tractor trailer driven by another North Carolina resident. The bike was heading north as the tractor trailer was traveling south. It is currently unknown what the cause of the crash may have been. Police have asked witnesses to contact local law enforcement, including the Brunswick County sheriff’s office, with any details they may be able to offer.

The motorcycle rider was taken to a local hospital and is currently being treated for severe injuries. The driver of the tractor trailer escaped the accident unharmed. Police are continuing to investigate any factors that may have played a role in the accident.

It is currently too early in the official investigation to determine where the culpability for this motorcycle accident might lie. Police have not released any details about which driver they feel may be at fault. North Carolina traffic laws will definitely play a role in any legal case that unfolds as a result of this accident, however. Victims who are injured in a car accident due to the apparent negligence of another driver may be able to file a personal injury claim to have their costs associated with the accident reimbursed.
