A driver accused of causing a fatal car crash is facing at least one criminal charge in the case. The accident in North Carolina has led to the death of a 24-year-old man. DWI charges have since been leveled against the driver. The accident occurred at an intersection shortly after midnight when the victim's Mazda was hit by a Saturn.
The Saturn driver also sustained injuries, but his passenger escaped the accident unscathed. The Mazda driver was transported to a local hospital, where he died a little while after arriving. Once the accident investigation is completed, it is possible the accused could face additional criminal charges.
The crash occurred close to the victim's home, but all the circumstances surrounding the crash have not yet been revealed. Information about how authorities concluded the man was allegedly under the influence also has not been released. There is no word on whether any toxicology or sobriety tests were performed at the crash scene or while the man was hospitalized, but such information could come into play once the man is in a courtroom.
When someone faces a DWI charge in North Carolina, it can be a time to worry because the laws in the state are strict and penalties for a conviction can be hefty. In addition, drivers may have to face repercussions from the Department of Motor Vehicles, and may face the loss of one's license. A DWI charge is serious enough for a person to consider requesting assistance with their case. Being charged does not mean someone is guilty, and they have the legal right to defend themselves in a court of law. Nevertheless, the seriousness of the charges mandate that the accused individual work to protect their legal rights while fighting for the best possible result.
