A tragic accident has taken the lives of two North Carolina teenagers. They were traveling on a scooter in Salisbury during the early morning hours on Oct. 4 when they were hit by a vehicle. Both teens died a short time after the accident.
The teenagers were struck by an SUV that had pulled onto the roadway. The resulting impact of the accident knocked the teenagers directly into the path of another oncoming vehicle. Police believe that the motor scooter’s lights were not on at the time of the accident.
An 18-year-old teenager passed away at the scene of the accident. A 19-year-old was transported to a hospital in Winston-Salem, where he later died.
Police are currently investigating whether criminal charges should be filed against the truck driver. That driver did receive a citation for not possessing a valid driver’s license.
When an accident of this magnitude occurs in North Carolina, it can be difficult to deal with the aftermath. There has been no word on whether any impairment may have been a factor, or whether this was simply a matter of someone not paying attention.
Regardless, the families of accident victims have legal options available to them, especially if the accident involved potential negligence on another party’s part. There has been no word on whether the families wish to pursue civil action in this particular case, but it could be an option they examine further in the future in order to hold negligent parties accountable and obtain compensation for funeral expenses and pain and suffering.
