Wilmington police are saying another huge heroin bust has led to the seizure of 7,500 bindles of heroin and put a large dent in the North Carolina drug trade. The bust comes after what was characterized as a lengthy investigation by the Wilmington Police Department. Four people are now facing drug charges as a result.
The WPD Narcotics Enforcement Unit, with the cooperation of the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, discovered the heroin after a traffic stop at North Kerr Avenue and the Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway. The claimed street value of the drugs was estimated by authorities to be approximately $150,000. All of it apparently headed for Wilmington. Police believe that the heroin was packaged outside of North Carolina but transported to the state for sale by crews here.
Four individuals are now facing a host of charges including trafficking heroin by possession, trafficking by transportation, possession of drug paraphernalia and conspiracy to traffic heroin, among others. Bail was set for each accused individual, ranging from $150,000 to $500,000.
Recently we wrote about a very similar heroin trafficking bust that occurred in Brunswick County. While there are several similarities in the cases, one in particular that should be noted is the length of time authorities spent investigating each one. The story we discussed on March 30 was the culmination of a month-long investigation, and authorities apparently spent several months to make this most recent drug bust.
While many people think that they have to wait until they have been arrested in order to seek legal help, that is simply not true. If you suspect you are being investigated for a drug crime or may be somehow linked to criminal activity that is being investigated, it is very important to seek legal help. The earlier you get help, the better chance you have of protecting yourself against potential allegations.
