Charges pending in fatal Brunswick County car accident

As many people in North Carolina know all too well, car accidents can cause immense tragedy and devastation. Unfortunately, North Carolina was home to yet another fatal car accident recently.

A New Brunswick County police trooper said the car accident occurred when a 16-year-old driver failed to adhere to traffic laws and passed a car in a no passing zone. When the high school student moved back into his lane, he lost control of his car, causing him to drive head-on into traffic. He collided with another vehicle, which was driven by a woman from Supply. She died at the scene of the crash.

A passenger in the Supply woman's vehicle was seriously injured in the collision. She and the teen driver were both transported to New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Police say charges are pending.

As this tragic accident so clearly illustrates, negligent driving can have serious consequences. Traffic laws are in place for a reason, and when motorists do not follow them, accidents like this one can occur.

Car accidents rarely just affect the person or people who were directly involved. The woman who died in the collision likely had family members and friends who cared for her deeply. Now, however, they must cope with the sudden and unexpected loss of their loved one.

While no amount of money can ever replace a loved one, it is important for the survivors of a car accident victim to know that if the crash was caused by another person's negligence, they may be able to hold the person accountable and obtain compensation. Monetary damages can go toward funeral costs and other related expenses so family members can focus on what is most important -- comforting one another in a time of grief.
