Truck accidents are a relatively common occurrence and they’re almost always frightening, but the seriousness of any motor vehicle accident is magnified when it costs someone his or her life.
That is what happened to a 78-year-old North Carolina man who died recently after being involved in a tractor-trailer accident. The man, who was driving a Cadillac, pulled out in front of the truck as he was traveling on Tom Starling Road in Hope Mills, North Carolina. The tractor trailer, which was being driven by a 58-year-old man, struck the driver’s side of the first vehicle. Emergency responders were immediately dispatched to the scene.
Upon arriving at the scene of the accident, emergency crews found the elderly man’s 53-year-old son trapped inside the Cadillac. He had been riding in the passenger seat at the time of the accident. Rescue workers freed him and transported him as well as the driver of the truck to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center for observation and medical treatment. The pair sustained injuries that were not considered life-threatening. The elderly man died at the scene.
As we can see, getting hit by a large vehicle can cause serious injuries or, sadly, even death. There is a facet of law in North Carolina that is designed to protect men and women involved in such accidents. There may be options available to the family of such victims to obtain compensation for their loss. The money could help alleviate financial burdens brought on by medical and funeral expenses.
