North Carolina man charged with DWI following crash with van

From time to time, people in North Carolina enjoy a drink or two with friends or at a bar. When it's time to leave, some people may feel fine and not think twice about getting in their car and driving home. However, even though a person may not feel intoxicated, it is still possible to blow a high reading on a Breathalyzer. Recently, a man was charged in North Carolina with a DWI after crashing into a family's van while intoxicated, leaving the occupants seriously injured.

The 26-year-old male was driving his vehicle toward an intersection of Johnson Street and Skeet Club Road in High Point, North Carolina, when he slammed into the family's van. The collision caused three children to be thrown from the vehicle. The mother driving the van also suffered extensive injuries, including numerous broken bones and internal organ damage.

According to police, the man may have been driving at almost 90 miles an hour. He has been charged by North Carolina police with a DWI, three counts of assault with a deadly weapon and reckless driving.

For many people, being arrested for driving while intoxicated is their first run-in with the law. However, even a first-time DWI charge can carry a substantial fine and a potential jail sentence. Being convicted for drunk driving can be devastating and have lasting effects on an individual's life. An experienced criminal defense lawyer understands all of the components that go into a DWI case. Strong defenses can be built to challenge the charges.
