On June 6, North Carolina agents with the City County Drug Task Force reportedly discovered a food item that contained marijuana during a vehicle search. The agents found the item at about 6:35 a.m. when they stopped a vehicle on Interstate 95 near Exit 173 following a motor vehicle violation.
During a search of the vehicle, authorities recovered marijuana, a mason jar that had marijuana residue in it, rolling papers and other drug paraphernalia. Agents also said that, after searching through luggage found in the vehicle, a “Fruity Pebbles” bar that contained marijuana was also found. This bar was wrapped in wax paper and plastic. A smaller piece of this same item was found in the vehicle’s center console.
The driver, said that the cereal bar was made with “cannabutte”, which is butter that contains THC extracted from marijuana plants. The driver said that users only eat a small amount at a time as the cereal bar is extremely potent. He was cited for several drug-related offenses and was given a July 26 court date.
Even misdemeanor drug charges can have life-impacting consequences, including a jail sentence and a criminal record. In some cases, a drug conviction on a person’s criminal record can result in the person being turned down for employment. A criminal law attorney could challenge the charges and defend a person against the potential consequences. In some cases, the attorney could argue that the traffic stop was not made with the required reasonable suspicion on the part f the authorities.
