When one thinks of a drug crime, illegal substances such as cocaine or heroin may come to mind. However, prescription drugs can be illegally bought or sold on the black market. In fact, police will investigate the illegal sale of prescription drugs and will make every effort to bring the alleged perpetrators of such crimes to justice.
Recently, 11 individuals in North Carolina were charged with various drug crimes involving the alleged trafficking of prescription drugs. Two of the drugs involved were oxycodone and suboxone, according to investigators. The incident allegedly took place in the northeastern part of the state. As of right now, the ages of the accused individuals have not been revealed. According to police, a single pill could cost up to $15 and some individuals obtain the drugs via Medicare coverage. The undercover investigation was part of a five-month sting known as, “Take as Directed.”
Oxycodone is a prescription-strength pain reliever that some people take not to reduce pain, but to experience the side effects of the drug. At the same time, a person could have a very real medical reason to take such drugs. A person who has a valid prescription for a drug should not be accused of a drug crime.
