5 arrested on sex crime charges after allegedly running porn ring

Some North Carolina parents will be devastated to learn that the person they entrusted to care for their children was actually a registered sex offender. The man and his wife allegedly ran an unlicensed daycare from their home and used the children in their care as part of their porn production operation. The five people involved face various sex crime charges, including sex exploitation, conspiracy, online solicitation and other felony sex offenses.

The defendants range in age from 20 to 50 years old, with one a sergeant in the Army. The 29-year-old sergeant has already been released from jail after posting a $75,000 bond. The man could face punishment from the Army once it completes its investigation.

Federal authorities are involved in the case, which includes 10 victims, ages 1 to 14. The 33-year-old sex offender has three previous felony charges against him for having sex with children. He just faced charges in January for allegedly raping a girl.

Despite the severity of the situation, all five of the defendants are innocent until proven guilty. It’s easy to assume guilt, but the truth is that nobody has been convicted yet. There could be further evidence, such as witness testimony, proving that someone is actually innocent.

Possible penalties for a conviction for sex crimes can include jail time and a requirement to register as sex offenders. This can greatly impact one’s personal and professional life, which means that a strong defense is absolutely necessary. Even when a person has a criminal history of sexual offenses, it is up to the defense attorney to ensure that a defendant’s rights are protected as the case makes its way through the court system.
