North Carolina woman killed by drunk driver

On Behalf of | Sep 18, 2013 | Drunk Driving Accidents |

One woman has been charged in the death of another following an accident in Asheville, according to local sources. The 45-year-old is being held responsible for the death of a local North Carolina woman after an accident police believe was the result of intoxication. The alleged drunk driver is now facing felony charges related to the crash.

According to police, the woman was traveling through Asheville when her vehicle crossed the center line. She struck a moped being driven by the victim head-on. The other woman was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident by arriving medical personnel.

Court documents allege the 45-year-old was impaired by alcohol and possibly by other substances as well at the time of the accident. Prosecutors believe her intoxication was the direct cause of the crash. She was taken into custody but has since been released on $60,000 bond. As of this writing, no court date has been set in connection with this case. It is unknown whether or not the defendant has secured representation at this time.

This tragic accident that claimed the life of an innocent woman could have been averted if the driver in question had not defied North Carolina traffic law and driven while intoxicated. The drunk driver, should she be found guilty of these charges, will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, but unfortunately that will not bring the deceased victim back to her family. Her next-of-kin may therefore wish to pursue a wrongful death law suit against the driver, separate from any criminal charges that may be filed.
