Rocky Mount man pleads guilty to federal charges

As adults, we often catch ourselves lending advice to our children or the young people in our lives. Sometimes, this advice comes from a place of personal experience. Adages such as, "do as I say, not as I do" or "learn from my mistakes," are offered to young people in order to teach them how to live an honest life.

North Carolina bus accident injures 20 National Guardsmen

One person is critically injured and 10 others have been taken to hospital after a bus overturned north of Charlotte on Aug. 23. The bus was carrying 20 North Carolina National Guardsmen when the accident happened. Local law enforcement as well as the bus company are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.

North Carolina arrests may be converted to federal drug charges

Sometimes a group of state charges with federal jurisdictional implications will be 'adopted' by federal authorities and taken forward by way of a federal indictment. That's probably bad news for a North Carolina man who is now in state custody on a number of pharmacy drug robberies that occurred in North Carolina and a neighboring state. When the allegations are turned into federal drug charges, he'll likely face a much more substantial sentence under the onerous federal sentencing guidelines.

NC State leading rusher is sidelined due to assault arrest

It's odd the way some businesses and organizations suspend an employee from his or her job immediately upon knowing of an individual's arrest by police. This is done without any court determination of criminal wrongdoing. A North Carolina State running back was charged on June 6 with misdemeanor criminal assault on a female and was suspended immediately.

2 dead after fatal car accident in North Carolina

A man and his 7-year-old passenger are dead following a serious crash in Raleigh on August 2. The two-car accident also injured three other people. North Carolina authorities are still investigating the crash and have yet to announce their findings.

Traffic stop leads to drug charges of trafficking heroin

Without traffic stops, drug enforcement officers would have far fewer arrests. In North Carolina and nationwide, most everyone who drives with a cache of drugs in a car seems to have an uncanny predilection for speeding, having a break light out or some other traffic violation that will loudly invite the police to stop the vehicle, which more often than not then results in a search and an arrest on drug charges. The other major way in which drug violators invite being arrested is their unquenchable habit of smoking marijuana in the vehicle while driving with illegal contraband.

Car accident in North Carolina sends 2 to hospital

A red light violation very nearly ended in tragedy on July 23 after a two-car crash sent several people to the hospital. The car accident has resulted in charges being filed by North Carolina police against everyone involved in the crash. There is no word as to the current status of the injured parties.

Drug charge against North Carolina star P.J. Hairston dismissed

Back on June 5, University of North Carolina basketball star leading scorer, P.J. Hairston, was arrested at a traffic stop for misdemeanor marijuana and driving without a license charges. That North Carolina arrest also raised eyebrows and suspicions when it was discovered that the car the player was driving was rented by a convicted felon who was facing a pending drug charge and a weapons charge. A 9mm handgun was found on the ground outside the car but there were two passengers in the car and no arrest was made on the gun.
