North Carolina teenager may face charges in car accident death

On Behalf of | Jan 3, 2013 | Fatal Motor Vehicle Accidents |

A teenager may face criminal charges for his role in a car accident that caused the death of a nurse. An officer with the North Carolina Highway Patrol has stated charges against the teenager are still pending, but they have not divulged what the charges may be. The teenager was also injured in the car accident, but it is unknown if he is still receiving medical treatment.

The crash occurred when the teenager reportedly crossed his Jeep over the center line of the road he was traveling on. A nurse was traveling in the opposite direction and the vehicles collided. The 36-year-old nurse died from her injuries.

The circumstances surrounding this tragic crash remain largely unreported. It is unknown if there were other factors such as drugs or alcohol that contributed to this accident, but there are no reports saying anything of that nature was involved. However, blood draws and lab testing are typically part of an official investigation when a fatality has occurred.

When a North Carolina car accident takes the life of a loved one, families understandably want answers. The accident report will likely answer some of those questions and could help the families as they struggle to deal with the loss. If negligence is cited as a causal or contributing factor, it could also help bolster any claims the family may elect to pursue in a civil court. Once the investigation is complete the surviving family will likely assess the viability of initiating legal action against the teenager based upon claims of negligence that proximately caused the tragic death.
