Biker dies in North Carolina motorcycle accident, charges filed

On Behalf of | Jan 31, 2013 | Motorcycle Accidents |

A North Carolina biker has died in a tragic crash. The 41-year-old man died when his bike collided with a car driven by a 20-year-old woman from out of state. The woman reportedly responsible is now facing criminal charges related to the motorcycle accident.

Authorities believe the woman may have caused the motorcycle accident when she turned her vehicle directly into the biker’s path. Before the crash, the biker was traveling north. She pulled out and made a left turn, apparently resulting in a crash the biker could not avoid.

The biker was transported to a local hospital but eventually succumbed to his injuries. Now the car driver has been charged with a misdemeanor crime in the man’s death. This incident is the second fatal crash to occur on the same stretch of road within a one week span. Authorities have not suggested that any extenuating factors contributed to the accident.

When a North Carolina motorcycle accident takes the life of a loved one, it is understandably devastating to the people left behind. In addition to the criminal charges the woman is already facing, the deceased biker’s family still has the right to file a civil lawsuit. A wrongful death is said to occur when a fatality is caused by the negligent or intentional conduct of another party. Although a successfully litigated claim will not undo the tragedy that has already occurred, the award of a monetary judgment for damages sustained may help prevent this personal tragedy from turning into a financial one as well.
