North Carolina woman faces murder charges in fatal car accident

A North Carolina woman accused of causing a fatal car accident about a year ago will finally be tried for her role in the crash. The woman was accused of drunk driving in an accident that took the lives of a father and son. After the fatal car accident, the woman was charged with two counts of second degree murder.

Initially, she had only been charged with DWI and felony hit and run. As the investigation progressed, those charges were upgraded to murder. In October of last year, the father and son were on a motorcycle, traveling with friends riding ahead on another bike. Authorities believe the woman came around a corner and hit both of the motorcycles.

She sideswiped the first one but then hit the motorcycle with the victims head-on. Both were thrown from the bike and died at the scene. The woman failed to stop and render aid but did stop about a mile past the crash. Neighbors who witnessed the accident pointed the woman out to authorities and she was arrested. Her blood alcohol limited registered above the legal limit, but authorities believe she may have also been under the influence of drugs.

If she is convicted of the charges stemming from the North Carolina fatal car accident, she could face a lengthy prison sentence. However, this may not be the end of her legal troubles. Although she is facing serious legal trouble on the criminal side, she is not exempt from civil liability in this crash. If the victims' family wishes to move forward, they retain the right to pursue a wrongful death lawsuit against her. Doing so won't change what happened, but รก successfully litigated claim could add an additional level of justice against her and provide the family monetary compensation to help offset the costs and other damages associated with the deaths of their loved ones.
