North Carolina car accident kills pedestrian, injures another

Tragedy has again struck in North Carolina. Two pedestrians were hit by a car that veered off of the road. One died the following day, and the other sustained injuries. The car accident occurred one recent Friday night when the car struck the victims on a sidewalk, though how or why the car ended up on the sidewalk in the first place remains a mystery.

The car was headed southbound in the right lane of a roadway when, for unknown reasons, the 25-year-old driver veered out of her lane and onto the sidewalk. After she hit the two pedestrians, her vehicle crashed into several trees. The woman sustained injuries, but they were not considered to be life-threatening.

A 21-year-old lost his life. The second pedestrian, a juvenile, was not thought to have suffered life-threatening injuries. As of now, the driver has not been charged, but that could change after authorities conclude their crash investigation. No other details of the seemingly avoidable tragedy were revealed by authorities.

Whether this accident resulted from a moment of inattentiveness or something else will likely be discovered during the police investigation. Accidents like this and the causes behind them can be difficult to fathom, especially for families confronted with a sudden and tragic loss. The victim's family will undoubtedly want answers. Both the surviving family of the deceased victim, as well as the injured juvenile, retain the right to seek reimbursement in North Carolina courts for damages incurred by the alleged negligence of another party.
