Reckless driving causes head-on collision in New Hanover, 3 hurt

On Behalf of | Jan 4, 2012 | Car Accidents |

In several other posts we have discussed the tragedy and injury that are often the results of a serious car accident. Sometimes, such collisions are in fact accidents, attributed to poor road or weather conditions. Other times, however, accidents can be attributed to a specific driver’s behavior, as in a recent crash in New Hanover County that injured several people.

A North Carolina Highway Patrol trooper has attributed a recent serious car accident to reckless driving. According to the trooper and witnesses, a woman was swerving between lanes before she crossed the center lane of Market Street, colliding head-on with an oncoming vehicle.

The driver of the car that reportedly caused the accident as well as two individuals who were in the other vehicle were all injured in the crash. A helicopter transported the driver to New Hanover Regional Medical Center after police closed Market Street around the accident scene. The two people who were in the second vehicle were taken to the hospital by ambulance. All injuries appear to be non-life threatening.

Police say they plan to interview the woman who they believe caused the crash. They said charges are pending against her. It is not clear why she was swerving between lanes.

As this incident so clearly shows, reckless and inattentive driving can cause serious car accidents. Fortunately, it seems that everyone will survive the injuries they sustained in this collision. However, not everyone involved in a crash is so lucky. Hopefully other drivers in New Hanover County and across the state of North Carolina will learn from this accident and do their best to drive safely.
