Although it is not always clear as to what led to an accident, most drivers know that when an accident involves a tractor-trailer, it can often result in serious injury or death. The sheer size of such a vehicle can have catastrophic effects on any vehicle that comes in contact with it. With large interstate highways intertwined throughout North Carolina, the potential for these types of accidents is always high as truck drivers make their way across the country via interstate highways.
A recent truck accident left one person dead, according to highway patrol troopers. On Wednesday, police reported that just after 1 a.m. a tractor-trailer crashed on Interstate 85. Police say the impact forced the truck over the bridge and one of the trailers hung off the edge of the bridge over a road. Police say the tractor-trailer was a double trailer UPS truck driven by a 58-year-old man who was described as a “veteran driver.”
Traffic was shut down and directed via a nearby exit around the accident, according to police. The road was closed for about eight hours in order to clean up all debris.
As police continue to investigate the accident, the family of the deceased person may choose to seek compensation against all negligent parties involved. Negligence in any car accident may be on the part of another driver, a vehicle manufacturer or even against those who designed a faulty roadway system. In this case, the truck company claims a tire malfunction may have caused the accident.
