In today’s hustle and bustle world, it seems everyone is distracted and constantly hurried. With phone calls, texts, appointments and multi-tasking a mainstay of modern life, it’s not uncommon for people to lose focus of what is right in front of them. Unfortunately, this hurried lifestyle can have deadly consequences on the road.
According to members of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, a 72-year-old woman was killed in a tragic car accident in Brunswick County when another driver failed to stop at a red light and struck her vehicle.
State troopers have confirmed that the woman was traveling westbound on NC-211 when a 51-year-old man driving a pickup truck ran a red light while headed northbound on US-17. The pickup truck struck the driver’s side door of the woman’s car. Officers believe both vehicles were likely totaled in the crash.
The 72-year-old woman was transported from the scene to an area hospital, where she was later pronounced dead as a result of the injuries she sustained in the accident. State troopers arrested the driver responsible for the car accident. He is currently being detained in the Brunswick County jail and is held on $15,000 bond. He now faces charges that include driving with a suspended license, failure to stop at a red light and misdemeanor death by vehicle.
Unfortunately, this accident is not the first of its kind. Far too many families throughout North Carolina have had to endure the devastating consequences that so often stem from serious car accidents. Hopefully this woman’s story and others like it will help encourage drivers across the state to operate their vehicles responsibly and with caution.
