2 killed, 2 hurt in Jacksonville DUI wreck; driver charged

Last week, two people were tragically killed in a serious car accident in Jacksonville, North Carolina. Police have charged a local man with causing the accident. According to them, the driver was intoxicated at the time of the collision.

Police say the drunk driving accident happened around midnight on Friday. The 27-year-old Jacksonville man crashed into another vehicle that contained four people, including the driver. In the wreck, two of the car’s passengers were thrown from the vehicle. However, instead of stopping to help the victims or report the accident, the Jacksonville man fled the scene.

Two people, a 49-year-old man and a 24-year-old man, died as a result of the collision. Two others were hurt and taken to local hospitals.

Police arrested the man, but he refused to submit to a blood alcohol test. A warrant was obtained, but the results have not yet been released. The Jacksonville man was charged with two counts of felony serious injury by vehicle, failing to report an accident, failing to give information or aid to passengers and two counts of felony death by vehicle.

This tragic crash clearly illustrates the dangers of drunk driving. People who drive while intoxicated often fail to realize that they are not only putting themselves in danger, they are putting everyone else who happens to share the road with them in harm’s way. Hopefully other North Carolina drivers will take responsibility for their lives and the lives of others by staying sober or finding a safe way home.
