North Carolina DUI crash leaves 3 injured

On Behalf of | Dec 14, 2011 | Drunk Driving Accidents |

No one in Wilmington wants to be involved in a serious car accident. Yet these types of incidents take place everyday across the state and the nation as a whole. In the worst cases, a car accident can lead to serious injury or even death to those involved. Such was the case on a recent Saturday when a car accident left several people hurt and one young girl perhaps fighting for her life.

The accident happened on U.S. 17 in Holly Ridge. The highway had to be closed down afterwards as police and rescue crews worked to help the injured and clear debris. In total, three vehicles were involved in the crash, and the driver of one vehicle was charged with drunk driving. As a result of her injuries, one 13-year-old girl had to be airlifted to a local hospital when rescuers found her unconscious and suffering from internal bleeding. According to police, the incident happened at around 5:30 in the evening.

Allegedly, a vehicle traveling over 80 mph crashed into the rear of another car, in which the 13-year-old girl was riding. Two others in the car were also injured and had to be transported to a hospital to receive treatment for their injuries. The alleged drunk driver then struck another car, but fortunately no further injuries were sustained. After hitting the other cars, the first vehicle then attempted to leave the scene, but the driver was later apprehended by police and charged with driving while impaired.
