A drug charge in North Carolina can lead to serious penalties if there is a conviction. And if the person has a past criminal record; a conviction on these new charges can lead to serious prison time. This may be the case for one individual who has been arrested on a series of drug charges.
The 24-year-old Asheville, North Carolina, man is facing five drug charges as well as other charges. The man is drug offenses the man is charged with include trafficking in opium or heroin, marijuana possession and manufacturing marijuana. He is also charged with maintaining a dwelling for controlled substances and possession of drug paraphernalia. The man, who is already a convicted felon, is also facing two counts of possession of a firearm by a felon. His bond was set at $36,500.
According to arrest warrants, the man pleaded guilty in August 2003 to robbery with a dangerous weapon. He appeared in the Superior Court of Mecklenburg County and was eventually sentenced to 51 to 71 months in prison. It is not known when he was released from prison.
It is important to remember that despite a previous arrest, people who are facing these types of serious drug charges like the man above are considered innocent until proven guilty. Even though this individual has a past criminal record, his present case has yet to be determined.
