Man injured in Wilmington drunk driving crash

On Behalf of | Sep 12, 2011 | Drunk Driving Accidents |

A man ended up in the hospital after his van was hit by a truck in New Hanover County. The accident happened on an August day at about 8:15 p.m. Authorities said a red truck was heading for the river on Castle Street in Wilmington when the driver ran a red light at 16th Street. Police said he hit a van in the intersection, causing serious damage. Police said the truck impacted the van in a way that trapped the van driver in his vehicle. He had to be cut out of the vehicle and taken to a nearby hospital.

Police told reporters they arrested the driver of the truck on drunk driving charges. Often the victim in a car crash does not have enough time to react to the negligent and reckless actions of those who get behind the wheel of a vehicle after they have consumed alcoholic beverages.

People injured by the negligent and careless conduct of another person are entitled to recover monetary damages for their injuries and pain and suffering. Though police said the victim was stable at the scene of the accident, he may likely face immediate and future medical bills. He may also deal with lost wages as a result of his injuries. In New Hanover County, a lawyer devoted to helping victims of drunk driving accidents may help hold the negligent parties accountable for their misdeeds and contribute to ensuring one less drunk driver on our roads and highways.
