Man involved in assault with a deadly weapon comes forward

A 35-year-old man wanted in connection with a recent shooting turned himself in to North Carolina law enforcement authorities a few days after the incident.

The man was suspected of breaking into the apartment of his estranged wife and shooting a 28-year-old man in the ankle. After the alleged assault with a deadly weapon, the man allegedly assaulted his wife outside of her apartment.

As they began their investigation, police in Culpeper, Virginia received information that the man had a sister in Harrisonburg, Virginia and contacted local police there. Harrisonburg police then contacted U.S. Marshals in the area in an attempt to locate the man. When they failed to find him at his sister's residence, authorities began to pursue other leads. Upon learning that the man's mother lived in North Carolina, they headed to her home. But before they reached the premises, the man turned himself in to the sheriff's office.

The man has been charged with five felonies and two misdemeanors. He faces felony charges of burglary while armed, malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and discharging a firearm in an occupied dwelling. The police investigation into the shooting is ongoing.

Facing charges for violent crimes such as this is extremely serious in North Carolina. If convicted, the man will most likely serve jail time for the incident. Those suspected often find themselves thrown into a difficult and emotional situations and can feel like no one is on their side. The importance of experienced criminal defense attorneys cannot be understated in criminal cases like this.
